Clinical Supervison & Mentoring
Clinical supervision for a rising therapist, social worker, case manager or mental health professional is perhaps the most important foundation of one’s clinical career after school. Most licenses require at least 3 years of post-graduation supervision alongside work experience. Most recent graduates seek that supervision through their employment, and if you are lucky enough to have that then supervision is engrained in your everyday work. I was not lucky enough to have that, so I sought external supervision. I found the experience to be more freeing than any internal supervision I’d ever had. Not bound by the double-edged sword of being supervised by someone who might also be your boss or colleague
I have over 15 years of experience working in the realm of mental health and social services, having experienced a variety of settings, including agency work, hospital settings, and welfare systems, each with their challenges in barriers. On top of traditional modalities of therapy, I am also well-versed in the complexities of the field. Outside of private practice, most of my career has been spent in the ever-changing, complex, and fabulous world of homeless services - an experience that has taught me how creative mental health professionals and social workers can be. The field has also shown me the skills of interacting with social services, inter-agency conflict, ethical dilemmas, matters of human resources, the management of staff and co-worker relationships, self care and burn our prevention, and how to navigate the dramatic lives of our clients while managing our own.
